Unlocking the Growth Opportunities of Western Sydney and the Illawarra Shoalhaven

On Thursday 19 September ISJO, in partnership with RDA Illawarra, University of Wollongong and the NSW Government will officially launch the ‘Western Sydney and Illawarra Shoalhaven Roadmap to Collaboration’ at NSW Parliament House.  In attendance will be members of the NSW Parliament, Mayors and General Managers from SW Sydney and Illawarra Shoalhaven Councils, and a range of regional leaders who are all committed to working together to improve the social, economic and employment connections between the two regions.

ISJO’s Chair, Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery said “For some time the strategic nature of the relationship between the Illawarra Shoalhaven and Western Sydney has been recognised, but not formally led by key decision makers across both regions”.

The Roadmap to Collaboration is the result of regional stakeholders drawn from across both regions coming together over many months to explore the significant opportunities that come from taking a more collaborative approach to planning, resourcing and on the ground implementation.

“By coming together to develop this Roadmap, we have an agreed strategy that focuses on 6 key priority areas that benefit both regions:  advanced manufacturing, education, freight and passenger transport, smart city technology, visitor economy and the Western Sydney Airport and Aerotropolis” said ISJO’s Chair, Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery.

This process of developing the Roadmap to Collaboration showcases the value and important role of the Illawarra Shoalhaven Joint Organisation in leading intergovernmental collaboration and regional advocacy in NSW.   ISJO will continue to play a key role by continuing the cross-regional collaboration to ensure the agreed initiatives progress.
