New Return and Earn reverse vending machine opens in Shellharbour

Shellharbour has a new location for locals to Return and Earn with the opening of a reverse vending machine (RVM) at Stockland Retail Park.

“Shellharbour Council residents are enthusiastic recyclers, having returned more than 71 million containers since Return and Earn launched in December 2017.

“This new RVM, located at Stockland Retail Park Shellharbour brings the total number of return points in the Shellharbour Council local government area to 9 which is a real win for the local community, providing them with even greater access and convenience,” said James Dorney, CEO of TOMRA Cleanaway, network operator for Return and Earn.

Consumers receive a 10c refund for each eligible bottle, can or carton they return.

Users of the Stockland Retail Park machine have the option to print a voucher for the refund amount, redeemable for cash at Woolworths; they can opt for an e-voucher or payment into their PayPal or bank account by downloading the MyTOMRA app before visiting. They can also choose to donate some or all of their refund to one of the charity partners listed on the machine.

“More than $28.4 million has been raised through the scheme so far for charities and community groups state-wide via donations and fees from hosting return points. In the Shellharbour Council area, local charities and schools are increasingly using the scheme to raise much-needed funds,” Mr Dorney said.

Green Connect Illawarra is currently featured as the local donation partner on the Stockland Retail Park Shellharbour machine with all donations received helping fund their important work in the local community.

Local recyclers can also support the latest state-wide major donation partner, Starlight Children's Foundation, by donating to the Containers 4 Kids appeal featured on the machine.

The new return point is one of more than 620 return points available across NSW with more than 6.5 billion containers returned through the scheme since its launch.

“By using this return point, in combination with your household recycling collection, we can all do our bit to reduce the millions of containers that are littered in the NSW environment each year while also being rewarded for our efforts,” Mr Dorney added.

The new Stockland Retail Park Shellharbour RVM is located at 5 Range Rd, Shellharbour City Centre and is open from 7am to 7pm daily.
